OUR BACKGROUND: A HISTORY OF SUSTAINABLE BUILDING
EcoCraft was founded in 2012
Edwin Hooker, owner of EcoCraft, began helping his father on remodeling his childhood home. After college he found a new love as a natural builder creating custom high-end straw bale homes in Colorado. He was involved in over 15 custom homes, with several of them over million dollar homes. He then became the foreman for a large commercial building company where he managed the construction of high-rise condos and commercial use buildings and hospitals.
During this time, he witnessed the sheer amount of waste that was generated during the conventional building process. After moving to Portland, Edwin was determined to make sustainable building accessible to everyone. As a result, EcoCraft, or Ecological Craftsmanship, was founded in early 2012.
By incorporating natural materials and energy efficiency into their remodeling projects and custom homes, EcoCraft has demonstrated how sustainable building isn’t only good for the earth — it’s good for people’s health and well-being as well. After all, sustainable materials and methods create homes that are healthier environments in which to live. And by bringing the natural world into the home, we honor our human need to connect with nature, which makes us happier and more peaceful.

At EcoCraft, we believe that integrity, trust, and open communication create the foundation on which good relationships are built. For us, that means price transparency. Here’s what you can expect:
ESTIMATE
We start by listening to your needs and dreams, and then we create an estimate for our cost to design and manage your project. Our cost-plus contracts guarantee you open access and an ability to determine project costs with a fixed project management fee.
DESIGN
With your approval, we’ll move on to design and outline the framework for your project, right down to the finishes. After the plans are finalized and ready for permit, we’ll source materials and request a variety of bids from our team of experts, including plumbers and electricians.
OVERSIGHT
We invite you into our CoConstruct Project Management software, where you’ll clearly see the costs of labor and materials as they accrue. You’ll be empowered to make informed decisions about your options, and your budget, at every step of the project.
